- 3. What are "full headers"?
The "From:" and "To:" headers that most email software display by default offer very little useful information when trying to analyze a problem. "From:" and "To:" do not necessarily indicate where the message came from, where it was sent to, or what servers were used to send, receive or relay the message. In the case of spam or virus-sent messages, the "From:" and "To:" will most certainly contain false information.
Full headers contain much useful information including the entire path that an email message took through the Internet. The headers are vitally needed by Support when responding to questions about an email message. Without the full headers, Support will be unable to accurately respond to most questions. If you do not have an email program that has the ability of showing full headers, it's highly recommended you switch to one that does.
Most email software will allow you to see a message's full headers. The instructions for your software should tell you how to do that.
